The Third Floor is looking for a Senior Developer to join our Animation Development team and help bring us to the next level of innovation and automation within our company. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated software developer with experience as an artist and/or passion for the film industry. We are an ambitious team that leans heavily into exploring new technologies, particularly those outside the traditional VFX software paradigms, to come up with creative technological solutions to our unique challenges.

Full Time. Remote Position. Must be in the state of California, Georgia, Texas, Oregon, Connecticut, Florida, New Jersey, New York (Outside NYC), Colorado, Washington, or Canada for remote positions.

Responsibilities:

• Work with the Head of Development to create technical breakdowns of projected development work
• Design/build/document new artist-facing tools
• Develop new pipeline workflows for modeling, layout, animation and compositing
• Integrate existing software solutions and adapt to proprietary codebase
• Tracking work-in-progress and communicating with Development Manager to focus priority
• Follow and generate development best practices, including peer reviews and collaborative development
• Generate both manual and automated testing, participate in QA testing for releases

Essential Skills:

• Robust understanding of Autodesk Maya, Autodesk Shotgun, and Foundry Nuke
• Robust understanding of Python programming and PEP8 conventions
• Experience with Git and Perforce VCS systems
• IDE debugging practices, including use of breakpoints and network debugging tools
• Understanding of visualization, including previs, postvis, and techvis
• Understanding of image pipelines, conventional image formats and image processing
• Understanding of remote execution stacks (e.g. Deadline, Tractor)
• General understanding of performance analysis and optimization techniques
• General understanding of networking

Desirable Skills:

• Strong understanding of VFX process, including modeling, layout, animation and compositing workflows
• Understanding of colour pipelines, including experience with OCIO
• Working knowledge of Javascript, C++, and/or Unreal Engine Blueprints
• Experience with administering databases (SQL, CouchDB)
• Experience with building or administering DAMs or other media management systems, e.g. Shotgun
• Experience with mobile app development and deployment, specifically iOS
• Experience with VR/AR/MR app development and deployment
• Experience with Unit Testing Frameworks, as well as CI/CD methodology
• Understanding of environment virtualization and package orchestration
